ABOUT SOLAR ALEGRIA

Solar Alegria is a captivating blend of two historic houses, dating back to 1856 and 1843 respectively, known as Casa do Amor. Over the years, these remarkable structures have undergone several renovations, culminating in their present-day splendor. Secluded at the end of a road, this enchanting retreat ensures a remarkable degree of privacy, boasting abundant greenery and awe-inspiring vistas of the valley and the river. Encircled by sprawling fields, the landscape delights visitors with its ever-changing hues and captivating atmosphere.

Conveniently located just 25 minutes away from the pristine beaches of Aveiro. There, you can indulge in the pleasures of a vast sandy beach, accompanied by a charming fisherman’s village and a delectable array of freshly caught seafood. For those who love surfing, you’ll be pleased to know that fantastic surf spots are also within easy reach, ensuring an exciting aquatic adventure awaits you.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF SOLAR ALEGRIA & ITS HOSTS

Solar Alegria was acquired by Jenny and Hugo, a French and Portuguese couple, a few years ago, driven by an irresistible “Coup de coeur” or love at first sight. They recognised it as a small paradise conveniently located near cities like Porto (1h), Aveiro (25mn), and Viseu (40mn), striking a perfect balance between relaxation and connection with nature.

At Solar Alegria, the fundamental belief is that every individual deserves peace and happiness. The location itself is a little piece of heaven, offering ample space and privacy, allowing guests to find their own unique way to enjoy their stay.

As passionate food enthusiasts, the hosts take pride in growing their own vegetables and sourcing most of the necessary ingredients from local providers. When you visit, they are more than happy to customise your experience, whether it’s creating the ultimate romantic moment or organising a thrilling adventure-filled day.

At Solar Alegria… Everything is possible!

SOME HIGHLIGHTS

Vale d’Água – Paradela via Ecopista

22.7- km out-and-back trail near Ribeiradio, Viseu. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h 18 min to complete entirely. This trail is great for hiking, mountain biking, and running, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

Cascata da Cabreia (Cabreia Waterfall)

There are two waterfalls in the park: a small one (pictured) and a larger one that serves as the main attraction. Nestled in the heart of a forest, the park is enveloped by lush trees and verdant surroundings. It exudes a welcoming and serene ambiance, making it a place I truly adore. Several trails start from there.

ACTIVITIES

Who doesn’t enjoy adventure and swinging on the highest points of the central region? We enjoyed the breeze at the Serra Swing, the Terra e Mar Swing, and the Rio Swing. And also visit the typical 19th-century Brasileiro Houses and the Sanctuary of “Senhora Dolorosa”.

Paiva Walkways + Arouca 516 Suspension Bridge

Walk along one of the most beautiful walking trails in the world: the Paiva Walkways – winner of the World Travel Awards in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019! And visit the Arouca Geopark, where you will cross the Longest Suspension Footbridge of the World! It spans 516m-long (1,692ft) across the valley and hangs 175m (576ft) above the Paiva River. Then, visit Arouca, which is a very Portuguese countryside town in style and tradition (a glance about local culture and construction styles where a impressive XII century monastery is the highlight).

Canyoning Frades River near Arouca

Regarded as one of the most beautiful canyoning spots in Portugal, the Fraddes canyon has spectacular pristine pools, cliff jumps and rappelling throughout.

This is canyoning in some of the most captivating landscape possible, perhaps one of the best in Europe. This river has beautiful lagoons along the route, with several waterfalls, rappels, and jumps, being it an extremely fun river to descend.
